Hello out there on this lovely Friday the 13th.
I've had a hell of a busy week, so much going on but all good things! This is going to be a short one since I still have work to do tonight but wanted to share what I've been up to art wise this week.
Without further ado here are my top three drawings of the week!
For the most part I've been getting back into drawing full bodies again because I loves doing it and also it is good prep work for a new series of work I am planning. It has layers but the main focus will be on body image, how our culture enables certain warped behaviours, whether it be tied to marketing products or the ever pulling tides of religion or just how ingrained we are to treat each other differently based on perceived notions of what beauty should or should not be. It can be seen as a discussion about how we interact with each other within these social structures. It's in it's early stages and will be fleshed out more in the coming months but I am looking forward to it very much.
On the other side I have been doing therapeutic exercises, it's something I learned to do years ago when I was feeling stressed or mentally blocked. I took a pen or pencil to a piece of paper, with no plan in mind of what it would be and just let my hand go where it wanted to. No thought process, just pure intuition.
This last one is pretty rough, I feel it was an extension of a conversation I had with a good friend Tuesday evening. It was an in depth talk and actually deserves a blog all to it's self. In short it's about the true faces of the individual, how people treat others based on outward appearance, cultural white washing and how messed up integration can be. All of these questions roiling around in my head produced this ink drawing.
I hope you enjoyed a peek inside my drawings of the week. There were a few other great drawings but I think I'll save them for next time. With that I bid you a good day or a good evening where ever you may be in the world, for now it's time for art nerdery work and then the ever sweet embrace of sleep in my squishy bed.
Love to you all.
